Gov. Kim Reynolds declared today a “Day of Prayer” in the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Reynolds announced the proclamation on Wednesday; today is the first day of Jewish Passover and is Christian Maundy Thursday, which precedes Easter. The Iowa Prayer Breakfast will be offered for free online this year.

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry has canceled its annual conference, scheduled for June 9-11 in Cedar Rapids, due to COVID-19. More than 600 people were expected to attend, organizers said. The 2021 Taking Care of Business Conference is scheduled for June 8-10 in Coralville and Iowa City. 

RackHouse Whiskey Club has partnered with two Washington-based distilleries to supply craft whiskey and hand sanitizer derived from vodka to club members affected by the coronavirus in 39 states, the subscription club announced this week. New subscription boxes will include hand sanitizer made by Solar Spirits Distillery from 190-proof vodka, blended into World Health Organization standard 80% alcohol hand sanitizer. MidAmerican Energy Co. is donating $500,000 to support local food insecurity relief and other COVID-19-related response efforts through its service area, MidAmerican announced this week. The donation is designated to more than 30 organizations, including local food banks, community foundations and United Way agencies addressing hunger and other urgent community needs.

Mainframe Studios
 has launched an Artists Relief Fund through GoFundMe, the company announced this week. The Mainframe Artists’ Relief Fund aims to raise about $10,000 for artists affected by COVID-19 closures. More information is available online.

The Des Moines Playhouse will remain closed until further notice, the playhouse announced this week. Once staff members are allowed to return to the building, they will reach out to those who have purchased tickets or a class to consider new class or show dates, creating a credit for a future activity or receiving a refund.
