UnityPoint Health announces furloughs, reduced staff hours
Cedar Rapids Gazette: UnityPoint Health announced a reduction in staff hours, furloughs and pay cuts for its executive staff members starting next week as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials with the West Des Moines-based health system said today that these temporary measures “were needed to focus resources and optimize the response to COVID-19.” The majority of staff who are directly caring for COVID-19 patients will not be affected, a spokeswoman said. 

Gray’s Lake Park closes parking lots to encourage social distancing
Des Moines Register: At Gray’s Lake Park these days, you don’t have to go home … but you can’t park here. Des Moines’ Parks and Recreation Department today closed the gates and parking lots at the city’s most popular park to encourage additional social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The park and its trails are still open, so people who run, walk or pedal there can still use it freely. But the often-crowded parking lot will be off-limits.

Congress reaches deal on $480B package to help small businesses and hospitals

CNN: Congressional negotiators have reached a deal on a roughly $480 billion relief package that includes hundreds of billions of dollars in new funding for small businesses hurt by the coronavirus outbreak along with other priorities like money for hospitals and expanded COVID-19 testing. Lawmakers will try to pass it in the Senate this afternoon. The full legislative text has not been formally released, but CNN obtained a copy of the bill. It will authorize the Paycheck Protection Program to spend an additional $310 billion. The deal will also provide $75 billion for hospitals and health care providers and an additional $25 billion to facilitate and expand COVID-19 testing.
