The Gregory & Suzie Glazer Burt Boys & Girls Club reopened today to serve as a food pantry site in partnership with the Food Bank of Iowa. The Burt Club pantry, located at 25th Street and Forest Avenue in Des Moines, will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for families in need of food assistance. All club locations have been closed since March 12. Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa serves nearly 2,300 kids across the Des Moines metro area, and almost all rely on food assistance. More than 77% of school-age children in Des Moines schools are part of free or reduced-price lunch programs, the club said in a statement.
