Krause Group Real Estate last week told tenants who occupy 189 residential units in six Des Moines properties that it would waive rental payments for the month of May, the group said in a news release. The rent, if collected, would have totaled $130,000. “No one has been left untouched by the impact of COVID-19,” Krause Group Chairman and CEO Kyle Krause said in a prepared statement. “We always want to make sure we’re showing up for our tenants and our community. I hope this can help alleviate some of the financial burden they might be experiencing during this uncertain time.” In addition, the company announced it had implemented  heightened protocols for cleaning and sanitizing, and rolled out rent relief programs offering up to three months of rent deferral for commercial and one month for residential tenants with interest-free payments. The properties include the Arlington and Hallet Apartments at 1301 and 1305 Locust St., 14Forty at 1440 Locust St., the Butler building at 1501 Grand Ave., the White building at 1511 Grand Ave., and the Jefferson at 11519 Grand Ave. Krause Group Real Estate is part of Krause Group, an Iowa-based company that is the parent of several businesses, including Kum & Go convenience stores.
