Grinnell Mutual announced that it will send a total of $5 million in rebates to its personal auto policy customers in recognition of fewer miles driven during the COVID-19 pandemic because of social isolation guidelines and work-from-home policies. Personal auto policyholders of the Grinnell-based company will be receiving a check for $30 per personal auto policy that covers a qualifying vehicle, with about 166,000 policyholders to receive rebates. Checks will be mailed by May 31. The company said the payback amount, as a percentage of its direct written premium, is comparable to what other property-casualty carriers have announced. Among other measures to assist policyholders, Grinnell Mutual said it is not enforcing policy coverage exclusions for vacant property during the state-mandated shutdown, and to assist restaurants during the current shift to delivery and take-out-only restrictions is also offering coverage to its existing restaurant policyholders for short-term hired and non-owned delivery coverage.
