The city of Des Moines is extending both the closure of administrative buildings until June 15, and a freeze on public event permits until July 1, Mayor Frank Cownie announced on Tuesday. Polk County reported the highest outbreak in the state on Tuesday with 1,778 total cases, more than double the 813 cases from a week ago. An update on city parks and recreational services will come later this week, Cownie said. All deadlines remain suspended indefinitely for city permits, licenses, certifications and fines. Parking meter enforcement remains discontinued except where parking is prohibited.
