The Iowa Department of Human Services announced that it has developed a COVID-19 Childcare Sustainability Plan through which it will distribute $31.9 million in stipends to qualifying licensed child care centers and registered homes. The funds are part of $3.5 billion in discretionary funding approved for the Childcare and Development Block Grant program through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. DHS will use the funds to pay a monthly stipend of $2,000 to open licensed centers and $500 to open registered homes. The funds will also be used to provide an additional monthly stipend of $2,000 to licensed centers and $500 to registered homes that provide 25% discounts to essential services personnel.
