Free hot meals will be provided to needy families between 4 and 6 p.m. today at Evelyn K. Davis Park, 1400 Forest Ave. The event is the fourth in a series of food distribution events planned for this summer. In April, the Des Moines City Council designated $350,000 from a federal relief grant to pay for the events, which not only support residents but local businesses. The city is partnering with Central Iowa Shelter and Services, the Food Bank of Iowa, Urban Dreams and Orchestrate Hospitality to provide the meals.
