The Iowa Department of Education announced that two Iowa high school students have been chosen to represent the state at the 2020 National Youth Science Camp, which for the first time will be held virtually due to COVID-19. Eliana Hornbuckle of Nevada and Kiran Marla of Bettendorf are among top students from across the nation selected for this prestigious opportunity based upon their academic achievement, leadership in school and community activities, and interest in the sciences. Virtual events will be held in place of the traditional monthlong residential-camp experience that has taken place each year since 1963. The camp will feature lectures from scientists and other experts in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in projects with experts and fellow student delegates.
