Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller on Thursday will join a virtual panel of consumer protection experts to discuss the growing threat of scams linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual fireside chat, hosted by the National Consumers League, will be held at 11 a.m. Central time on June 25. John Breyault, vice president of National Consumers League, Brad Anderson, state director of AARP Iowa, and Beth Townsend, director of Iowa Workforce Development, are also on the panel to arm consumers with information they can use to spot and avoid these scams. Since the pandemic began, NCL, which operates the website Fraud.org, has seen an uptick in complaints about a variety of scams preying on increasingly vulnerable, financially strapped and fearful consumers.
