Double Up Food Bucks, a Healthiest State Initiative program, received $1 million in CARES Act funding to provide emergency relief for Iowans facing food insecurity due to COVID-19 related unemployment and income loss, the Healthiest State Initiative announced this week. Double Up Food Bucks allows SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) customers to match, up to $10 a day, purchases of fresh produce  made with their EBT card for additional fruits and vegetables. CARES Act funding will help expand the Double Up Food Bucks program to more grocery stores and farmers markets across the state; a complete list of farmers markets and stands still operating in the pandemic is available online.
