The Plains Area Mental Health Center in Carroll was awarded $107,180 by the Federal Communications Commission’s Wireline Competition Bureau to purchase laptop computers and tablets so health care providers can continue serving patients in rural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic, the FCC announced this week. The center is one of 77 applicants nationwide who received some of the $29.41 million in funding so far by the FCC’s COVID-19 Telehealth Program. The COVID-19 Telehealth Program is authorized by the CARES Act to approve a total of 444 funding applications, for a total of $157.64 million.
