A proclamation signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds this afternoon will close all bars, wineries, breweries, distilleries and nightclubs this evening at 5 p.m. in six counties until Sept. 20, in an effort to curb a rising positive COVID-19 rate among Iowans ages 19-24, Reynolds said at a news conference. The new proclamation affects businesses in Polk, Dallas, Story, Linn, Johnson and Black Hawk counties. Businesses can continue to sell alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption, and restaurants that receive at least half of their monthly revenues in food sales may remain open, but they are required to stop serving alcohol at 10 p.m. The announcement came as the Iowa Department of Public Health today reported the largest single-day increase in overall coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.
