Continuing unemployment claims filed in Iowa between Sept. 27 and Oct. 3 totaled 51,666, a decrease of 6,753 from the previous week, Iowa Workforce Development reported this week. There were 4,730 initial claims filed in Iowa. Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $14,767,817 for the week. 

Industries with the most unemployment claims were manufacturing (959), health care and social assistance (374), construction (344), retail trades industries (294), and self-employed/contractors (926). A total of $3,511,200 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation benefits were paid during the week, which were retroactive payments as the payment program ended July 25. Since April 4, a total of $1,611,479,743 in benefits have been paid from that fund. 

A total of $4,264,291 was paid in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits during the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3. A total of $6,856,590 in benefits has been paid in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits; $1,208,553 has been paid in State Extended Benefits.
