Des Moines Register: Malls and big-box stores in Iowa and across the country remained calm and mainly quiet on Black Friday — an indication of the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the U.S. economy at the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. Avoiding the long lines and packed aisles that have been the norm on the day after Thanksgiving, many shoppers instead relied more on online retailers. Stores that in recent years opened just after midnight or even on Thanksgiving Day itself instead remained closed for the most part on the holiday and opened around dawn on Friday.
