Des Moines Register: Des Moines middle and high school students could be online for the rest of the semester after a special meeting of the school board Tuesday night. In the second of two motions passed by board members Tuesday, the board voted 4-2 to allow Superintendent Thomas Ahart to apply for enough remote learning waivers from the state to keep some students online for the rest of the semester if community metrics surpass the board’s threshold for filing a waiver. Board members Teree Caldwell-Johnson and Kelli Soyer voted against the motion. The board’s criteria for applying for a waiver include a county COVID-19 positivity rate of at least 10% and 200 positive cases per 100,000 people.
